1984

Today I decided to haul down my 1984 Calbee set from way up on the closet shelf in my kids' toy room where it sits in a hockey card album. It was sunny and insanely hot and humid so I naturally decided to take them outside into the garden where I could take pictures of them to give the illusion of having leisurely flipped through them in an idyllic setting rather than doing so in a hurry before rapidly retreating to the air conditioned living room.

I'm pretty sure I'm trying to complete this set, If you've gone to the trouble of putting them into a binder with enough pages for all (715] cards, then you are trying to complete the set whether you thought it through or not,

The 1984 set has always drawn me to it with that cool bottom border that boldly sets them apart from all the other 1980s Calbee sets. I even devoted one of my earliest posts on here to it. I had about 100 cards from it back then. 12 years later I have about 400.  I wonder what my old self would have thought of my progress.

 The thing that vexes me about the 1984s are the short printed series, which there are a lot of and they are expensive. Well, "expensive" is a relative term, I don't think there are any cards likely to cost more than 50 to 100 dollars in it, but I'm on a budget.

Anyway, I added a couple of cards to it this week and am happy to have nudged it along a bit further. Perhaps in another 12 years I'll still be working on it.
