I guess they just weren't overly concerned with detail in the late 40s, which in the historical context makes some sense!Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13681778110046124243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4243926228844409495.post-4548235959706391782019-04-17T05:40:04.929-07:002019-04-17T05:40:04.929-07:00Yeah, it looks like on a lot of these kinds of men...Yeah, it looks like on a lot of these kinds of menko the backs are totally unrelated to the fronts. I have a card from a catologed set (JDM 11) that shows a player from Meiji of the Tokyo Big Six collegiate league on the front but the information on the back of the card is for Masataka Tsuchiya of Hosei! I wondered if it was some sort of error card but when I asked Gary Engel about it he said all the cards he'd seen were like that.NPB Card Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01178497208404127283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4243926228844409495.post-3573118444011417332019-04-16T17:08:28.636-07:002019-04-16T17:08:28.636-07:00Yeah, pretty cool eh?Yeah, pretty cool eh?Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13681778110046124243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4243926228844409495.post-81970536542418311022019-04-15T20:55:13.090-07:002019-04-15T20:55:13.090-07:00I'm out of my league when it comes to this stu...I'm out of my league when it comes to this stuff... but this uncut sheet is gorgeous. Now that you mention it, that guy is an umpire (even though the back of the card says Taihei Gun, I guess the images on the front are not connected to the team names on the back).Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13681778110046124243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4243926228844409495.post-84247692602714203062019-04-15T05:48:11.915-07:002019-04-15T05:48:11.915-07:00I have some similar menkos from around the same ti...I have some similar menkos from around the same time - I don't think they represent actual players. One of your cards (bottom row, second from the left) looks like an umpire.NPB Card Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01178497208404127283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4243926228844409495.post-52256497375111905582019-04-14T23:07:37.754-07:002019-04-14T23:07:37.754-07:00Cool, I've seen (in fact, I own) some Sumo one...Cool, I've seen (in fact, I own) some Sumo ones that are quite similar, die cut caricatures. Gotta love them. If Calbee or BBM had any imagination they'd be doing retro sets based on designs like these!Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13681778110046124243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4243926228844409495.post-77392848356742235382019-04-14T23:00:32.393-07:002019-04-14T23:00:32.393-07:00Awesome! Cool find!SumoMenkoManhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17461389544030702085noreply@blogger.com
